1885

The legacy of the six brothers begins.
The first brother was born into a family that
nurtured palm plantations and held the
exclusive license to distill palm wine.

  • 1902

    Our founder,
    the sixth brother Jehangirji Behramji, is born.

  • 1922

    Our founding fathers the six brothers'
    unbridled passion for fine spirits leads
    them on an ambitious journey of
    establishing one of India’s first
    distilleries in Aswa, commencing
    production of spirits made from rare
    flowers and tropical fruits.

  • 1929

    Our founders establish
    distilleries in the princely
    states of Jawhar and Akkalkot.

  • 1949

    The Maharashtra Prohibition
    Act is enforced, putting an
    abrupt end to our operations.

  • 1972

    Prohibition is abolished.

  • 1975

    Our founder’s spirit remains unwavering
    after prohibition.
    He finds the strength to press on,
    determined to overcome every obstacle
    in his path and revives one of India’s oldest
    distilleries in Aswa, Dahanu.

  • 1984

    Mr. Kaikhushroo Jehangirji Chinoy along with his son
    Mr. Viraf Chinoy, the 3rd generation of the family,
    pay a rich tribute to our founders' vision by setting up
    South Seas Disitlleries to produce finest malt spirits.
    Production commences and the legacy lives on.

  • 1990

    Top-of-the-line technology for pot
    still distillation is sourced from
    Stewart McBain, Scotland; and the
    work begins to set up copper pot
    stills and subsequently distillation of
    malt whiskies begins.

  • 1995

    We expand and step up our
    supply of high quality malt
    spirits, masterfully crafted and
    matured in rare oak casks, to
    national and global business.

  • 1999

    Small batches of rare single malts are masterfully
    crafted for a sophisticated flavour profile, unlike
    any other, earning rich accolades in India and across
    continents from world-renowned Master Distillers.

  • 2005

    We further expanded to install India’s
    largest Copper Pot Stills for distillation.
    The unique size of these stills enables us to
    capture the essence of the raw ingredients,
    transforming them into refined spirits with
    distinctive profiles while elevating our
    production capacities.

  • 2007

    Despite the nascent market for single malts,
    we took a bold step by expanding their
    maturation capacity further by constructing
    India's largest privately owned maturation
    warehouse. We started maturing whisky in a
    wide array of casks, even though the market
    wasn't completely ready for the idea.

  • 2018

    One of the world’s largest conglomerates
    entrusts us for their foray into the realm
    of Indian single malts.

  • 2023

    Introducing Crazy Cock Single Malt Whisky,
    served in two exquisite expressions - “RARE” and “DHUA”.
    These exceptional whiskies are crafted with skills honed
    across four generations.

  • 2024

    From a legacy of over a century and strong belief
    in the oldest spirit category originating from India,
    introduce Six Brothers Mahura, a masterpiece of
    infinite possibilities, crafted to transcend time.
    A spirit very proudly Indian.

  • 2025
