Crazy Cock is an exceptional single malt whisky distilled from 6 row Indian barley, sourced all the way from the pristine plains of North India. The barley distilled using the old, traditional method; In Copper Pots which bring alive a rich melange of delicate notes and a medley of subtle aromas. The whisky is matured in ex-Bourbon, ex-Sherry casks for a full-bodied and complex flavour profile. Batches of it are smoked for a mildly, peaty experience and set aside for Crazy Cock Dhua. These eclectic single malts are carefully selected by the Master Blender, each for its uniquely rewarding aroma and palate and crafted to perfection in small batches of Crazy Cock Single Malt Whiskies.
The family previously owned distilleries in the princely states of Jawhar and Akkalkot in the 1920s till India’s Independence, when prohibition was announced which brought an abrupt end to operations. Decades later, after the easing of prohibition in India, the family restarted the distilling business. Quite obviously, our vast and varied experience over the years has honed our skills and helped us gain a profound understanding of malts and magic. With the fourth generation taking from the previous, there is a new-found ambition in the air. Given our vast expertise, we are now boldly venturing into uncharted territory.

Across four generations, the family has dedicated decades not only to refine but also redefine the art of the single malt whisky. Back in the 80s when Indian single malt whiskies were unheard of, we embarked on a journey of perfecting one of the finest single malt whiskies the world has to offer. Armed with this vision, we meticulously handpicked some of the finest Bourbon and Sherry casks, among others, from around the world. Over the years, we’ve honed our skills and we’ve won rich acclaim for our malts from our discerning clients across continents. But you don’t have to take our word for it. South Seas is the first malt distillery in the West Coast of India, a journey which traces its roots to the quaint village of Aswa in Dahanu, Maharashtra. The warm micro climate in the region leads to greater evaporation, resulting in an Angel’s Share far greater than in cooler climates. Predictably, a far greater Angel’s Share leads to a greater loss in quantity But did that stop us? Far from it The unique micro-climate results in exceptional, full-bodied, small-batch single malt whiskies as mellow as the ones far greater in age, yet remarkable owing to their distinct and complex flavour profile.

Considering the warm coastal climate, we were called out for setting up operations in Dahanu. The gentle Arabian Sea breeze meets the embrace of the Sahyadri Mountain Range to aid tropical maturation. The peaks and troughs of the warm coastal climate drive the whisky into the wood to impart a distinct character, vis-à-vis whiskies produced in cooler climates. This results in single malt whiskies with complex flavour profiles characterised by hints of tropical fruits and spices with a rich depth and finish.
